 Essay Questions

You are required to write three personal essays. Your admissions packet provides questions you should answer and explains how to present information about yourself. Each essay should be 500 to 1,500 words (1-3 pages).

Essay A. You may choose to do an official admissions interview in place of this essay. To arrange an interview, please contact Thunderbird Admissions at admissions@thunderbird.edu or call 1-602-978-7100.

What international / cross-cultural background will you bring to Thunderbird and how will those past experiences add value to your classmates and to your future management assignment? (Please limit response to 1,500 words)

Essay B. What are your short and long-term career objectives; how and why will a Thunderbird degree, combined with your past educational and professional experiences, enable you to achieve these objectives? (Please limit response to 1,500 words.)

Essay C. At Thunderbird, we recognize management as a true profession and that education confers not only knowledge and skills, but also a responsibility to use those skills for the betterment of society. Acceptance to Thunderbird therefore signifies the joining of a community with shared values that are captured in our graduation pledge, the "Thunderbird Professional Oath of Honor". After reading the pledge, please respond to either option 1 or 2 below. (Please limit response to 1,500 words.)

Thunderbird Professional Oath of Honor
As a Thunderbird and a global citizen, I promise:

I will strive to act with honesty and integrity;
I will respect the rights and dignity of all people;
I will strive to create sustainable prosperity worldwide;
I will oppose all forms of corruption and exploitation; and
I will take responsibility for my actions.

As I hold true to these principles, it is my hope that I may enjoy an
honorable reputation and peace of conscience.

This pledge I make freely and upon my honor.

Option 1
Both on the job and beyond the workplace, Thunderbirds have long contributed to making the world a better place - not only for themselves but also for others. In your opinion, what companies or organizations have shown a strong commitment to "making the world a better place"? How do their practices align with your personal views of ethical behavior?

Option 2
What global cause or global issue do you think deserves greater attention? What steps have various companies and organizations taken to further that cause and what more do you suggest that they do in the future?

Essay D (Optional)
Is there anything that you think the Admissions Committee should know which you feel has not been covered? If your credentials and essays represent you clearly and fairly, do not feel obligated to answer this question. (Please limit response to 1,500 words.)

Essay E (optional). Required essay only for those interested in being considered for scholarships
Please explain why you believe that you would be a strong candidate for a Thunderbird Scholarship. If you know the name of the scholarship for which you would like to be considered, please include this in your essay. If you are unsure, Thunderbird will match your profile to scholarship funds that are available for you. Your answer MUST be under one page in length.

• Your estimation of the applicant’s potential for organizational leadership responsibilities

• A comparative review of the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses

• An example, known personally by you, of performance excellence by the applicant

• Knowledge that you have of the applicant’s ability to function in a diverse and multinational environment

• Anything else about the applicant that you feel is important for the Thunderbird Admissions Committee to know
